Too many people have lost their lives, or been in an accident, on Hwy 49 between Grass Valley and Auburn California.
My name is Jolie Allen, I started this project as an 11 year old 6th grader at Nevada City School of the Arts. I'm now 14 and attend Nevada Union High School. The Fix49.org campaign; studying statistics, interviewing experts, website, and public information delivery was my 6th grade (STEAM) Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math project.
My long-term goal is to have safety features like: a median barrier, acceleration and deceleration lanes, widening the highway to 4 lanes, additional speed enforcement, etc. to save lives on this dangerous stretch of highway. By widening the highway to 4 lanes with a center median and emergency shoulder, it will also serve as an evacuation route during a fire.
I've collected over 3,000 petitions from local residents and delivered these to Caltrans.
Since starting this project, many people have volunteered to join the effort.
